Nilal Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026.
Nilal is a matrimony app that helps people, and their families, find a life partner. This policy explains what we collect, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. By using Nilal you agree to it.
What we collect
Account: your name and email address from Google Sign-In.
Phone number: verified with a one-time code sent by SMS. It is never printed on your profile; you decide who may see it.
Profile: first name, gender, date of birth (we show only your age), height, religion and community, mother tongue, star (nakshatra), rasi and horoscope pages if you upload them, education, profession, income range, city, family details, lifestyle and partner preferences. Health details are optional.
Photos you add, and a selfie if you choose to verify your photos.
Approximate location (an area of about 5 km) if you allow it, to show people nearby. We never show your exact location.
Messages, photos and voice notes you send in chats, and who you show interest in, save or block.
Purchases: which plan you bought through Google Play and when it renews. Google handles payment; we never see your card or UPI details.
Device and usage: a push-notification token, crash reports and basic usage needed to keep the app working and secure.
How we use it
To create your profile and show it to other members, suggest matches and let you connect.
To keep the community safe: verify phone numbers, check photos for inappropriate content, act on reports and block misuse.
To send notifications you have not switched off (interests, matches, messages, requests).
To provide the plan you bought and its features.
We never sell your personal data.
What other people see
Other members see your public profile: first name, age, photos (or one softened photo, if you choose), city, community, education, profession and the other details you add. Your last name, date of birth, phone number, exact location and health details are not shown.
You choose in Privacy settings who sees your photos, your phone number and your horoscope (everyone, paid members, or only people you approve).
Family members you invite can see the profiles suggested to you and help you search. A parent can create a profile for their son or daughter, who can take it over.
Marriage catalog: only if you switch it on, your photo and profile summary (never your date of birth or phone number) appear in a weekly PDF that members of the app can download.
Who processes data for us
Google (Firebase and Google Cloud, India region) stores the app’s data and sends notifications. Google Play handles purchases.
MSG91 sends the one-time codes as WhatsApp messages, which WhatsApp (Meta) delivers.
Amazon Web Services (Rekognition) checks photos and compares the verification selfie with your photos; images are not kept by them.
OpenAI powers the optional help assistant and writing suggestions; what you type there is sent to them to answer, and is not used to train their models.
They act only on our instructions. We share information with authorities only when the law requires it.
Security and how long we keep data
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest; your last name, date of birth, phone number, exact location and health details are additionally encrypted by us. Screenshots are blocked in the app.
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, horoscope, messages and requests are deleted, apart from records the law requires us to keep for a limited time (for example, logs of reported misuse for up to 180 days).
Your choices and rights
You can see and edit your profile, change your privacy settings, hide your profile, download your data (Me → Download my data) and delete your account (Me → Delete account) at any time. See the Account deletion page for details.
You can withdraw consent by deleting your account. You can also ask us to correct or erase your data by writing to us.
Age
Nilal is only for adults: brides must be at least 18 and grooms at least 21, as Indian marriage law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and tell you in the app when the change matters.
